AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 65-15-1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO ALLOW A SUPERVISOR TO BORROW FUNDS FOR BUILDING AND MAINTAINING ROADS IN THE SUPERVISORS DISTRICT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 65-15-1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
[With regard to any county which is exempt from the provisions of Section 19-2-3, this section shall read as follows:]
65-15-1. (1) The board of supervisors may raise funds for working, constructing, reconstructing and maintaining public roads or for building bridges by an ad valorem tax on all assessed taxable property in the county or supervisors district or districts, or by a bond issue, or by either or both of the methods.
(2) A supervisor may borrow money in a sum or sums not greater in the aggregate than One Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars ($125,000.00) for working, constructing and maintaining public roads and bridges in the district of the supervisor. The term of such loans shall not exceed the term of the supervisor and shall be repaid out of the road funds for the district.
[With regard to any county which is required to operate on a countywide system of road administration as described in Section 19-2-3, this section shall read as follows:]
65-15-1. The board of supervisors may raise funds for working, constructing, reconstructing and maintaining public roads or for building bridges by an ad valorem tax on all assessed taxable property in the county, or by a bond issue, or by either or both of said methods.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after January 2, 2000.
